How to Prevent Skin Damage and Maintain Hand Hygiene?

Key Takeaway

  • What most of us don’t know about hand hygiene?
  • Top ways of taking care of our hands.
  • Additional hand hygiene during Covid19.

Introduction

For the past 1 year, we have been doing several activities that prevent us from getting & spreading Corona Virus. One of the activities is washing our hands regularly. And the other one is to sanitize our hands while we go out or come back from outside. I hope you all are doing the same, even in the second wave of Covid19.

What most of us don’t know about hand hygiene?

We all have a habit of listening and following the guidelines given by our government. But at times, we overdo things which may cause severe problems to our health.

One such situation I have personally seen in my native is people were frequently washing their hands. Additionally, they were applying sanitizer after every hand wash.

  • First of all, these all hand wash and sanitizers are chemicals, which can create problems for your hands and health. Overusing it may have vulnerable effects.
  • Secondly, overusing may cause a lot of dryness which can lead to dermatitis.
  • Lastly, repetitive use of hand wash and hand sanitizer may cause damage to the superficial layer of the skin. It eventually will dissolve the upper layer of fat present in the skin.

All these can be avoided if you follow the guidelines/steps I have mentioned to protect your skin against unwanted damage.

Top ways to take care of your hand hygiene

There are several ways of taking care of one’s hand hygiene. I have listed some of them here. Remember, I was able to find these ways after careful reading & taking the guidance of dermatologists.

  • Moisturize your hands immediately after washing your hands.
  • Do not apply moisturizers with fragrance.
  • Apply moisturizer to your hands before wearing gloves.
  • Avoid using hot water to wash your hands.
  • If you have any skin problems, I recommend approaching a Dermatologist before thinking about your hand hygiene during the Covid19 pandemic.
  • It is better to go for hand wash instead of just applying hand sanitizer. But make sure you apply moisturizer right after washing your hands.
  • Ensure that you keep a glitter & fragrance-free sanitizer in your pocket or bag. If there are any circumstances when you can’t go for a hand wash, you can use hand sanitizer to stay safe.

These are a few simple steps that one must follow if they are concerned about their hand hygiene during the Covid19 pandemic.

Additional tips for your hand hygiene

No matter what the situation is, overdoing or overusing any utility product will always cause damage. Similar is the case when we try to overuse hand wash and hand sanitizer. I have also learned about some of the additional things we may imbibe in our lives during the covid19 & post-covid19 period.

  • A single drop of hand wash is enough to wash your hands. Don’t try to overuse it.
  • A single drop of hand sanitizer is enough to sanitize our hands. Remember, it contains chemicals + alcohol that may cause severe damage to our hands.
  • A drop or two of moisturizers is enough to moisturize our hands. Don’t go for the smell; prefer your health first.
  • Please guide your children regarding the usage of these chemicals. Damage caused at an early age is very problematic.
  • Additionally, keep your child away from these chemicals.

I know that this kind of awareness is already present in all of us, but I must mention all these when trying to justify my points regarding hand hygiene.

Summing Up

We all are aware of the ill effects of the Corona Virus. And about the activities we need to follow if we wish to stay safe from Corona Virus.

The only aim behind writing this blog was to help you understand what can happen if we overuse or overdose our skin with these chemicals. It may be injurious to our skin.

I will suggest you consult any dermatologist if you face any skin irritation, rashes, or skin-related problems after applying hand sanitizer or washing your hands. A dermatologist will guide you in the right direction to solve all your skin problems.
