How to Choose an Eco Shelter?

Have you ever wanted to experience living in a home that made you feel connected to all things natural around you? What if you could make the structure portable and environmentally friendly? This is what eco shelter living is like. One of the best shelter home types are the geodesic dome homes. You can use geodome eco shelters for camping, alternative living, and entertainment. However, you need to choose a shelter that best fits your purpose.

Here are some things to consider.

Should be Customizable

You need to make sure that you can customize and personalize your shelter to best suit your personality. Geodesic eco shelters are largely circular in shape. It can get tiring very fast if you are unable to put your signature on the quirky place. Dome shelters are available in a number of shapes, sizes, and colors. You can choose between a single dome and a connected dual dome. You can have the outer material in a color of your choice. It doesn’t necessarily have to be white or grey.

Portable

Where eco shelters are concerned, it is best to go with a portable option. You may think you have the best spot to park your dome, but you may think differently after a few months or years. When you start living close to nature, you want to experience more. You grow and mature like the trees around you. It would be a good idea to at least leave the option open to move your dome when it fancies you.

Materials Used

Depending upon the cost and manufacturer, you can take your pick from various materials. You need to make sure you choose something durable and not try to cut costs. Geodesic domes are built to withstand high speed winds and the harshest of weather. However, a dome is only as strong as the materials it is made from. Typically, galvanized steel is used to manufacture the tubing. This is intended to be lightweight, strong, and economical.

You want the membrane covers to be highly durable and last at least a few years. Generally, polyester fabric is used since it is resistant to scratches and is easy to clean. You should ask the manufacturer whether the cover is dirt repellant, wind resistant, flame resistant, and heat resistant. It would be a good idea to choose a membrane cover that is UV resistant if you are sensitive to sun.

Entrance and Windows

Doorways and windows are where most geodome structures differ from each other. You want your eco shelter to give you maximum access to nature, but you also want it to be safe. You can choose among solid wood doors, aluminum doors, or zippers. You can also have bay windows or skylight windows of any shape and size.
