Amrapali Jewels is a jewellery house founded in the year 1978 by Rajiv Arora and Rajesh Ajmera in Jaipur. They produce uncut gemstone jewellery with tribal designs. They produce earrings, necklaces, rings, maangtikas, pendants, bracelets and more. Earrings are their best selling jewellery pieces. They have several stores located in India, Pakistan and London.
Co-founder of Amrapali Jewels, Rajiv Arora acquired a degree in Political Science and then did a Masters in History followed by an MBA in the same. Then he started his own small scale business in handicrafts. As his business progressed he started sourcing silver from tribal regions to produce his jewellery. In 1978 he co-founded the brand Amrapali with his close friend Rajesh Ajmera. They both travelled to different rural regions of the country to find inspiration to create unique statement pieces. They studied the different styles of various tribes and incorporated them in their jewellery pieces. They mastered the art of creating contemporary jewellery pieces with tribal designs.
The brand also has a jewellery museum in Jaipur which holds a collection of traditional Indian jewellery. The museum is spread over 6500 sq ft and displays various ancient jewels like pendants, chains, amulets, earrings, head pieces, bangles, bracelets, belts, rings, anklets and more that have been collected by the co-founders for over 50 years.
Celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor and Hollywood celebrities like Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Scarlett Johansson have been spotted wearing their jewellery.
Amrapali Jewels launched their e-commerce business named ‘Tribe’ in 2013. Their aim was to make their jewellery accessible to regions where they do not have physical stores. And also to cater to the middle class consumers. They also opened a school of design ‘Gurukul’ in an attempt to give back to the society.
