All that you Need to Know About Lip Reduction Surgery

Lip reduction surgery is heaven-sent for those who want to make their lips appear less full. It is also considered to be safer than lip augmentation which is done to make the lips appear fuller. However, it should be ensured that it is done by someone who is certified.

Lip reduction is a plastic surgery in India which involves removing skin tissues from either or at times both of the lips to reshape the entire area. To do so anaesthesia is used which can be either local or general so that the entire process is pain-free.

Process

The process begins with a surgeon making an incision horizontally on the pink area of the inner lip. This is done to minimise scarring. After this excess fat and tissues are removed to reduce the overall volume. Once all the unnecessary tissues are removed, the surgeon closes the incision by stitches. These stitches fall off in a few days.

Brazilian Reduction

There are some lip reduction techniques which focus only on toning down one of the lips. This is known as the “Brazilian” technique. In this process, the focus is on the lower lip and derives its inspiration from a bikini line which is conventionally triangle-shaped at the bottom.
To get the desired shape and volume, experienced surgeons remove a greater portion of tissues from the centre of the lower lip.

Recovery Period

After the surgery, swelling and redness does last a few days. Once this period has passed, patients are able to talk and move around more comfortably. For the sutures to come out and the lips to fully heal, it takes a week or two. This may sound like a lot of time but when compared to other cosmetic surgeries, it is a lot lesser. For those planning to take leave from work, one week should be more than enough.

At the time of recovery, patients may be asked to apply ice packs to the lips or use over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. All this should be done under the guidance of a practising doctor and who should be contacted immediately if the post-surgery symptoms continue to be persistent for more than two weeks.

Candidate Selection

Usually, those individuals opt for lip reduction surgery who want to change their facial appearance especially those who have very large lips. Such a surgery is also desired by those candidates who had a lip augmentation surgery previously but which left them with larger lips than what they desired.

The shape of our lips also changes with advanced age. As such, lip reduction surgery can also be done to correct the asymmetry resulting from age. Lip reduction techniques have also proven to be beneficial for those with cleft lip and palate.

Not everyone is a candidate though for lip reduction. Those with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases can get rejected. Also forbidden are those who have a history of frequent mouth sores. It is thus essential to acquaint the surgeon beforehand about the medical condition to rule out the possibility of serious side-effects.

Thus, there are certain benefits associated with lip reduction surgeries but one should be careful and know the dos and don’ts before going for it.

The long term effects of seizures on the human brain are yet to be fully ascertained. Even though there are doubts which are to be fully eliminated, doctors do not completely rule out the possibility of damage to the brain resulting from seizures. However, brains in kids are still in a developing state and as such even if any damage is caused by seizures, the possibility of it doing any serious damage is least likeliest in kids.
