7 Tips on Making the Most out of Seafood Buffets

Seafood is a well-loved delicacy by both young and old. It is also one of the most exquisite delicacies known to humanity. From shrimps to tiger prawns, Sydney Rock oysters to mussels, and salmon to Queensland spanner crabs, the combinations are endless. A decade ago, you can only see a handful of restaurants that cater to a robust seafood menu. But now, you will rarely see an eatery without one. So if you are a foodie who loves everything that comes from the sea, going to a seafood buffet is a logical choice.

France was the first country that developed the usual buffet service that exists today. England followed a couple of decades after. Dining practices from different areas of the planet were practised; and retained, such as leaving food on the sideboard and getting their chow. Buffets offer a lot of variety, so it is a suitable dining alternative to traditional restaurants.

Research restaurants with a wide array of food choices

Buffet spreads usually have different kinds of food. A varied assortment of food is essential when you go to a buffet. When you have a lot of options to choose from, you do not tire from a particular menu easily. Seafood holds power to balance out the palette. So it is best to eat it in between viands.

What is the best time to go to a buffet?

Buffets have different prices for lunch or dinner. So for more value for your buck, it is best to go to a lunch seafood buffet, which lasts typically until around five o’clock in the afternoon. (But do your research beforehand, and check if they limit the lunch menus). And while seafood is appropriately stored until consumption, they are mostly delivered fresh in the early morning. So the first batches of seafood are during lunchtime fare.

Eat breakfast

It is the common practice of all buffet-enthusiasts to skip meals. However, the stomach shrinks to a smaller size when it is deprived of food for a long time. If you go immediately to a buffet then, you will not be able to eat more than you like. So the best way to maximise your visit is by eating breakfast. Go for fibre-rich food like cereal or oatmeal, which the body processes quickly.

No tight waistlines, please

You may have done some shopping or physical exercise just before going out for lunch or dinner. Tight bottoms may be your Achilles’ heel when you are about to eat a lot. Go for elastic-waisted bottoms if you plan to do that buffet run. Your pants or skirt should be fit enough that it won’t fall to your ankles. But they should also expand when your tummy does the same.

Go for a soup or salad starter

While a seafood platter allows you to eat more food options, a bowl of soup or salad prepares your body for the incoming chow. Research has shown that both starters have high water content, which lets your stomach relax and process food efficiently.

Small portions of everything are enough

Often, a person gravitates towards a food favourite. For instance, if you love pasta, you would immediately check out the spaghetti and ravioli sideboards. But in a buffet place, variety is your friend. It breaks the taste monotony, so it lets you eat more seafood, meat, and other viands. If you want to have a taste of everything, small portions are more than enough.

Hydrate your system with liquids

Your digestive system needs hydration so it can boost your metabolism and digest food quickly. You need to take sips of water regularly so that your stomach will be ready to accept the food you eat.

Regularly eating seafood is the dream of every food enthusiast. But if it is not possible to do so, then going to a buffet is the next best thing.
